My boys are 4 and 6, and are avid LEGO fans. The idea sounded great, but I could just imagine my boys declaring that they were bored after 5 minutes of half-hearted building.
I needed a way to keep them engaged, while still giving them a chance to exercise their creativity. I wanted it to be age-appropriate for both of them, and adaptable to different skill levels. The activity cards either give them a build or a pattern to re-create, or are designed to be a jumping off point to inspire their creativity.

My six-year-old would quickly correct me and tell me that something has to repeat three times to be a pattern who knew!
These are designed to be simpler builds, for kids who may not quite be ready to re-create the builds in the first set of activity cards. For simplicity, they use the same pieces as the easy LEGO builds. You can download the full set of LEGO activity cards here.

There are so many ways to practice patterns but one of our favorites is with LEGO! LEGO learning is hands on, and uses a manipulative that the kids are familiar with and really enjoy making learning fun. I have made printable cards of LEGO patterns for my children to create with.

The Book. Learning Resources. Activities by Age.Our house has been LEGO crazy lately. We're planning to drive somewhere far this year for the first time. We're driving several states away with an overnight stop to break it up. Once we get to our destination, we will be staying at a vacation rental where we will all have bedrooms, a full kitchen, etc. We can spread out and live life just like we can at home. But vacation rentals don't come with toys.
What to pack, what to pack? They are both so cool! Observe below: the pure joy of opening a cool new toy! This is perfect for us. My kids are right in that beginning LEGO builder stage and these sets provide just the right amount of challenge.
The other great thing about the actual suitcase is that you can use it to transport your creations without completely dismantling them. I think the easy-to-follow assembly directions, plus the excitement of the potential pretend play once they sets were built were both really encouraging for my 5 year old daughter- I mean for heaven's sake the grocery store set came with a KITTY!
The fire fighters had to go grocery shopping, they had to rescue the kitten from the grocery store roof, and they were great friends with the supermarket staff! After seeing the suitcases in person, and seeing how engrossed the kids are with them, I knew they would be perfect to pack for our road trip.
I could see how they would be super handy for a sleepover at Grandma's house or any other place where you might not have access to other toys. The suitcases fit perfectly into our kids' backpacks and leave room for books and other toys still. I was trying to think of something to compliment the portability of these sets and I thought it would be fun to make us some printable LEGO Challenge Cards.
There are three pages, 2 with printed cards and one with blanks cards so you can make up your own! I am going to use these in my classroom as a fine motor activity in our rotations. I will be making a lot of my own cards for this. The Juniors part just tells you that the sets are designed to be easier to assemble for beginner LEGO users.
